So you want to start your own photography business from home. In today’s world, this is a lot easier than it once was. Now you no longer need a dark room and equipment, and messy chemicals to develop your photos. This makes the ongoing costs of photography less expensive than ever before.Do you have a passion for photography? Do you dream of making your hobby into a full-time job working for yourself? All you need is a place at home converted into a work space, and you are ready to setup and start working. You will also need to market yourself so people know what you do and how to find you.Make sure you have a good portfolio to show potential clients.Think of it like this – Would you a hire a photographer if they could not show you examples of their work to impress you? If the answer is no then – Why would your potential clients hire you if you don’t have an impressive portfolio?Photography Equipment for Starting OutAll you need to start is a good SLR digital camera, a photo editing program like Adobe Photoshop and a computer. This is how simplistic photographic equipment has become. You can go out and spend money on extra equipment but until you can afford more, you can always hire it.Skills of a Digital PhotographerIn the old days, a photographer needed very specialist skills. That’s not to say they don’t still. It is just the focus on skills has changed. The digital age has made it so much easier to manipulate and print your own photos and images. Consider there is nor more film to buy, nor chemicals for that matter. Anyone with a good eye, a love for photography and a willingness to learn can turn their hobby into a successful photography businessThe demand for photographs is higher than ever before; what, with online businesses shooting up all over the place. That doesn’t look like stopping any time soon. Prices are definitely lower that they used to be. This is because competition has risen so much with so many photographers competing against each other worldwide. However, there has been a rise in demand for photos. More and more people are shopping online. Every e-commerce website needs photos of their products. Every corner of the market needs more photos than ever because they are now so much more visual – travel agents, real estate, celebrations; in fact almost any subject matter you can see or think of can be relayed through photography in some way. When thinking of setting up as a freelance photographer think about what niche market your interests fit into. See what people are already doing and charging, and look at where you fit in. What do you do that is so special? Take a look at other photographer’s prices and see if you can charge less. But in considering this, think about your skills and make sure you do not undervalue yourself or your overheads. There is no point working cheaper than your competitors if it means you make no money. You will from time to time need to transfer ownership of your images to a customer and it’s good to have forms in place to assist with quick and smooth transition. You may want to think about some standard forms for varying occasions.Business Planning yourself into the FutureAs for any other business, it is wise to write yourself a business plan. This will guide you through your initial setup stages as well as into the future. It can be a useful implement for many different purposes. A business plan should include: – your goals, – financial projections, – pricing, – current financial position, – marketing plan, – a mission statement, and – how you will achieve your goals. It is a good reference document to keep you and your business on track. Your business plan should be regularly updated to reflect the growth of your business.A business plan should include whether you are a sole trader or whether you are going to form a company to work under; you business or trading name and where you intend to operate from. Your business plan should be detailed; include any future goals and set yourself milestones to reach. This gives you a good guide on how to get there, but if your needs change, update the business plan.A business plan also needs details of your financial and business history. One day you may need to apply for a loan and lenders will want to see something in writing to show them you are serious about your business.A clear marketing plan of how you are going to reach your objectives and potential clients is an absolute must. Include things like what sets you apart from other photographers. Think about what type of customers you want. Take a second to think if it will be something like portrait or baby photography. Do you want to specifically target these markets? There are many different types of photography, consider carefully if you would prefer to specialize in one or two? I would suggest you begin by working in the area where you have the most experience and then progressing over time into other photography categories. Ask yourself if you are happy with a small, part-time business, or if you want to target a wider market full-time. Consider whether you need a website to market your skills. Ask yourself how many other avenues you can reach to enhance your customer base?Another part of you business plan should outline the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors. Look at their services and how you can compete. Find out their prices. This is fairly easy these days as most people post their prices on their websites. Explain how go about your business or indeed highlight the parts of your business that benefits the customer. How are you going to make money? Make sure you have a good idea of how much you need to spend in the following year and go over i twice. If you have a spouse or partner, let them go over it too? How are you going to finance that? How much have you got in the bank to support you through any tough times in the first 2 years? What insurances do you need? How are you going to keep track of your customers, billing, and the everyday running of your business? How are you going to deal with your taxes?Check that you do not need licenses in your state to run a business from home. Take a look at how you will expand into the future. Work out if your business can cover your expenses. If you are intending to leave a full-time job, it may pay to start out small and build your business up to where you can cut your days at your other job. Do not be too hasty to jump in. Your financials remain a priority, you must keep them at the top of your mind with every decision you make.As you can see, anyone can start a business as a photographer. Keep in mind that planning is imperative and while your at it make sure you truly enjoy photography or this could be a mistake.

Internet World Statistics tell me that there are over 6.7 billion people living on this planet. The latest figures show over 1.6 billion of them use the Internet while in the year 2000 there were just under 361million users. That is a growth rate of almost 450%. In the US alone and back in 2005 there were 13.8 million Home based Businesses (info. provided by Entrepreneur.com) and in my own country, Australia in the state of New South Wales there were 254,000 in 2004. Today there is more. Tomorrow there will be more again! The idea, concept, consideration of a home based business is for the most part is a noble and popular one. The reason so many people are thinking about or have already started a home based business is as varied as the individuals that choose it. However, for the most part it can be said that most home based businesses are borne out of convenience.Single Mums find it convenient to work from home while they can still care for their children. Stay at home Dads are much more common in today’s day and can find it convenient to keep an eye on the “little ones” while they do business from home. Maybe commuting is a problem and navigating the hallway in ones own home is far more convenient than the city streets or country roads. Whatever it is though the thought is there – “work from home”. This doesn’t mean though that we have a “Home Based Business”.Of course there is a difference between “work from home” and a “home based business” and often (I think) we get the two confused a bit. We speak “home based business” but think “work from home”!The differences are considerable and may be found in the definitions themselves. You see when you research the word “Business” you will find something like this (depending on your source):-Business: The purchase and sale of goods in an attempt to make a profit (Macquarie Dictionary). We also see in association a Business Name:Business Name: The name other than a surname under which a person carries on business or profession, such name being necessarily registered. If we dig a little deeper from the same source we identify the people that do business are described as the following:-Businessman /woman: A person who engages in business or commerce.AndBusinesslike: Conforming to the methods of business or trade; methodical; systematic. And finally:Business Plan: A formal statement of business goals, the reason why they are believed attainable and the plan for reaching those goals. It may also contain background information about the organisation or team attempting to reach those goals.Work on the other hand is something different. (According to Wikipedia) being thus:Work:(1) Exertion directed to produce or accomplish something; labour; toil. (2) A productive or operative activity (3) Employment; a job; especially that by which one earns a living. So this is what I’m getting to. Sometimes we focus on the hole in the middle of the donut and don’t look at the whole thing! We can say we have a home based business but we don’t see the big picture and therefore we are working from home instead. If we are serious about a home based business then we must see the whole thing. Build from the right foundations and bring clarity to our vision. There is nothing wrong with work from home at all. In fact if we are to have a home based business we will indeed work from home. It will be an integral part of our business but, if we don’t have a business plan, a registered business name, or if we are not attempting to buy (or create) and sell something for profit, conform to business principles and conduct ourselves in a businesslike manner we don’t have a business at all… we are just working? You may have started like a “bull at a gate”, you may be going “great guns” or you may be struggling to get your focus or organise your day. Don’t fret! Take a moment to reflect on your foundations. Have you got a business plan with goals and a systematic approach to achieve them? Are they realistic? Are you structured properly? If not then take a little time to get these things in order. Then get back into it and gain the rewards you deserve for having a go, not giving up and enjoy the lifestyle you have chosen.Just a word of warning! If you don’t have a Business Plan you can lose your way. If you don’t have a Business Structure you may well have problems with taxation in the future and if you don’t have a business mindset you will struggle to enjoy and achieve your dream. I heard this saying today and can’t remember who quoted it but it goes like this “Goals are in concrete, plans are in sand!”If you are interested in getting educated in the successful use of the Internet and additionally want the opportunity to market top tier education material may I suggest that you visit the website below? Now I know that you will never look at a donut quite the same again. And I hope that you never look at your home based business the same either.I wish you all the prosperity and satisfaction that you hope for and more in your Home Based Business.Cheers,

In both management and leadership, management skills combined with trust are at the core of what the team must feel and experience in order to function as a high-productivity unit. In today’s difficult economic times, the “trust factor” is a powerful ingredient to face the challenges. There are any number of things a manager does, or can do, to build trust with the members of their team. However, building trust does not lend itself to some technique or contrived behavior that is not an honest part of the managers character. Many times, a manager may be acting or relating in a way that does not help to build trust and may not be a natural way the manager behaves. These unintended trust-busters can be recognized and over-come.Perhaps one of the best ways for managers and leaders to become acutely aware of how Trust with employees manifests itself is to see how other people perceive it. When trust exists for someone under the leadership of a manager, you will hear them articulate it in some of the following ways. So, what does “Trust in a Manager” look and feel like from the perspective of an employee? When I interact with my manager, I feel he/she is being themselves and authentic.
Although I understand that the my manager has to make decisions and do what’s right for the business, I always feel my manager has my best interests at heart.
When business challenges and problems occur, and things are very uncertain, I have faith in my manager anyway because of past experience.
I trust my manager because he/she is forthright and does not have a hidden agenda. Openness is the key.
My manager is always very consistent and “walks the talk.”These “trust-thoughts” can help all of us as managers to take a look in the mirror and see if our management and leadership behaviors would encourage this employee thinking. It is all about the quality of our relationship with each employee, and with the team as a whole. There must be a fundamental honesty and sincerity about a managers efforts to build a solid working relationship with each person. The purpose behind a managers effort to build this relationship is to “make everyone know they count and matter” both to the manager and to the organization. An employees feeling of Trust in their manager is also a function of time and experience. What has been the history of the employee’s relationship with a manager? Sometimes a past occurrence is still preventing the development of trust. Managers, who senses that an employee who has been with the manager is not showing trust, may need to have an open and purposeful conversation. the manager can start with a general question about “how they employee feels about the team and about his or her relationship with the manager.” This will take some effort and probing but the manager may be able to draw out the issue. Once on the table, the manager and employee can discuss things candidly and build the framework to move forward into a trusting relationship. The point here is that Trust counts. Where trust exists, there is much less “noise” in the working relationships and execution of work assignments and tasks.
